The Department of Humanities offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in

The research field comprises 4 sections: Ancient and Modern LanguagesLinguistics, Literature and Philology; HistoryPhilosophy and Human Sciences.

The Department’s primary goal is both personal and professional education of students – the future ruling classes – inspired by the values of humanism, intended as guiding principles and sources of innovation within cultural, social, political and economic processes. Personal education is entrusted to the effective structures and services, within a perspective of exemplarity. Scientific and professional educational experiences, on the other hand, are based on effective course organisation, assistance of the professors, consistent tutoring, on the use of technology in in-person and online teaching, as well as on research.

Specific attention is dedicated to relations with the region, through internships to help students explore prospective opportunities for future employment. A particular focus is also put on international relations through the involvement of professors, researchers and postgraduates in thematic research networks within the world’s main strategic areas. Additionally, the University of Macerata is one of the first universities in Italy to provide Erasmus relations. Erasmus mobility program allows students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to stay at other European institutions of higher education for a period of time.

Recognizing the importance of the digital revolution and its implications in the field of humanities, the department strives to produce innovative models in different fields that range from the management of cultural heritage to publishing and digital archive storage. These efforts would be entirely fruitless if they were not associated with the preservation of classical disciplines, the ancient ones in particular, and the study of oriental civilizations, such as the Arabic - Islamic, Indian and Confucian ones. Thanks to their fundamental contribution to culture and humanities, we value the language of film and multimedia arts, theatre, the figurative arts and the historical and artistic tradition.
